What to say when your kids don’t want to go to school

So, your little one dropped the classic “I don’t want to go to school” bomb, huh? First off, take a deep breath – you’re not alone in this. Then, remind yourself: they’re really trying to tell me how they FEEL right now (although it sure can feel like they’re trying to run the show.)

We can make room for these tough feelings without changing our plans. We can let kids know we totally get how hard it is to leave home. We can remind them that their toys will be waiting for them after school. And we can tell them that we’ll be thinking of them…even when we’re not with them.

Was going to school easy or difficult for you as a kid? If it was difficult, what do you think would have made it easier?
