How to say goodbye to the pacifier

“How do I take the pacifier away without totally traumatizing my kid?!”

If you have a toddler who LOVES their paci, then you’re probably dreading it. When? How? Will she ever sleep again?! When: Most Dentists agree between the ages of 2 and 3 is the best time to ditch the paci. There’s no need to rush this milestone earlier, so scroll on past and release that worry. Come back to this post when you’re ready.

Now, if your child IS the appropriate age + you’re ready to say bye to the paci, we have a few plans, one of the most popular one being the Paci Fairy🧚🏽‍♀️

How To:

✨Shift into keeping pacifiers for nap + bedtime only for a few weeks

✨PREP their toddler brains by reading bye bye paci books daily for at least 2 weeks.

Pro tip: There is an entire Sesame Street special about saying bye to paci. If there was ever the case for screen time, this is it.

✨Intro the Paci Fairy: “The Paci Fairy will soon visit our house! What we will do is: We will grab a biiiiig envelope, put all the Pacis in, and in the morning, she will leave you a surprise. We’ll have a party!” Throw the word cake in there if you want to reaaally take this next level. Toddlers (humans in general) F’ing love cake.

✨Pick a day on the calendar for the Paci Fairy to come. Mark it on the cal, along with VISIBLY marking the days counting down to the visit for your toddler.

✨On the day of, have your child collect the pacis, put them in an envelope (let them decorate it!) + leave it on the porch.

✨Cover your porch in confetti + leave an exciting toy in place of the pacis ~ make it a party!🎉 Have some cake, balloons, whatever it is you want to do. This is a big milestone! We’re celebrating!
