I’m not saying your child needs to be reading before kindergarten. When you teach your child to read is your choice to make based on what you think is best for them and their situation.
What I AM saying (as a former kindergarten teacher) is that IF your child is reading before kindergarten: there will still be lots of things left for them to learn and do and explore.
And when you think about it: it just makes sense. We know that kids like to do things they’re good at. How often have you heard a 5-year old say “I’m bored” when discussing something they do well? Typically they say “Let’s do it again!”
Those kids who say “I’m bored! Let’s do something else”?! You guessed it: it’s probably the ones who are struggling and want to do something else instead.
